
Vasilis J. Botopoulos
Rector and Managing Director; Associate Professor, Business & Technology Department
Vasilis J. Botopoulos is the inaugural Rector and Managing Director of Webster University’s campus in Athens, Greece.
Botopoulos assumed this position at Webster University in July 2014, after serving for over two decades as vice president of the University of Indianapolis in the USA, as provost and as chancellor of its Athens Campus in Greece. He served as an associate faculty member at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and adjunct faculty at the University of Indianapolis teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in math, statistics, operations and business.
He has experience in global higher education, higher education administration and teaching, as well as engineering, transportation planning and project management. Early in his career he worked for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) as a highway/railway project manager, bridge design engineer and manager of the Transportation Planning Division. He was part of the development of the first concrete model on “Expansion Project Prioritization and Selection Criteria,” a model that recognized the preferences and priorities of the State's infrastructure. He served for over 10 years as the president of the Goulandri-Horn Foundation in Greece and also served for several years as vice president of the Greek Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) Chapter.
Botopoulos has served as a board member to various organizations, including the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Board of Directors and the ACBSP European Operations Executive Advisory Board, the Association of American Colleges in Greece (AACG), the Euro Mediterranean Academy of Arts and Sciences (EMAAS), the Webster University Geneva Foundation Board and the International Advisory Board of the Research Institute of European American Studies (RIEAS). He also served three times as ACBSP’s International Region president and chair of the ACBSP Council of Regional Presidents.
He is an active member and supporter of the American-Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA).
Botopoulos earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in civil engineering from Purdue University and a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Indianapolis. He fulfilled his military obligations between degrees. In 2019, he was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa from Grigor Robakidze University.

Anthi Kalomiri

Anthi Kalomiri is a communications executive and media studies educator with extensive experience in media, public relations and educational management, supported by a strong background in print, broadcast and digital journalism. For more than 15 years, she has worked with American educational institutions in Athens, including the University of Indianapolis, Junior Achievement Greece and Webster University. In addition, she has collaborated with Greek American media and major non-governmental organizations for 14 years in Chicago.
As Communications Department Head at Webster University’s Athens campus and Assistant Professor of Media Studies and Global Citizenship, Kalomiri leads strategic communications, manages digital and media outreach, advises senior leadership on communication and public relations strategy and has taught more than 14 courses. In her parallel role as Corporate Partner Admissions Counselor, she initiates partnerships with the Greek American community, international, Arab and Middle Eastern institutions, businesses, NGOs and media organizations.
Recipient of the Leif J. Sverdrup Global Teaching Fellowship Award, she taught media studies at Webster University Tashkent campus during the Fall 2023 semester, initiating cross-cultural collaborations between the two campuses’ study abroad programs.
Kalomiri was selected to serve under the Greek Deputy Minister of Education through the OpenGov process, contributing to higher education policy reforms (2010–11). She has been a Huffington Post Greece contributor since 2015 and founded her blog Op-Ed Gr in 2009 to promote dialogue on education, culture and society.
Her dedication to education in Greece began at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, where she developed the volunteer selection plan for the “Olympic Family,” the global outreach campaign to Greeks abroad and educational initiatives reaching more than 80,000 students and 1,900 diaspora schools.
Her professional portfolio includes work with National Greek Public Television (ERT), Chicago correspondent of ERT channel 3 and Midwest Marketing Director for the ERT satellite channel, ERTsat. Kalomiri also served as the National Herald newspaper’s Midwest correspondent; hosted and produced radio talk shows in Chicago, Illinois, and directed the press office of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) in Chicago, a global non-governmental organization under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Konstantinos Kanellopoulos

Konstantinos Kanellopoulos, PhD, attended the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. During his undergraduate studies, he was awarded three scholarships from the National Scholarship Foundation of Greece. He also holds a Master of Science in Operational Research and Information Systems from the London School of Economics in the UK and an MBA in Finance from Bayes Business School in the UK (previously known as Cass Business School). In September 2022, he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the School of Computing and Digital Media at the London Metropolitan University in the UK.
Kanellopoulos has been sponsored in the UK by industry to conduct practical implementation on risk assessment and treasury management. He has worked with Her Majesty’s Export Credit Guarantee Department, now known as UK Export Finance, where he assessed risk related to export credit insurance and he was part of the team for the extension of the securitization facility of Mercedes-Benz Finance in the UK, which involved asset-liability management.
In Luxembourg, Kanellopoulos has been working for the industry, under the auspices of Eurostat, on the implementation of longitudinal aspects into innovation surveys, which have been required by the European Commission.
In Greece, he has worked for the Bank of Greece since 2000. Since March 2022, he has held the position of the Head of the Macroprudential Policy Section, responsible for the design, selection and calibration of macroprudential policy measures, preparation of macroprudential sections of Bank of Greece publications and assessment of compliance with ESRB recommendations on macroprudential policy matters. He has been the Head of the Systemic Risk Monitoring Section with the responsibility of monitoring and assessing developments in the financial system and its associated systemic risks, as well as conducting assessments on the domestic financial markets. He has also worked at the Banking Supervision Department, where he analyzed the Greek banking system using statistical and prudential data. He also monitored the effective, consistent and timely implementation of banking regulation for prudential data reporting.

Eleni Kapsokoli
Lecturer, History/Politics and International Relations Department
Eleni Kapsokoli, PhD, holds a postdoctoral degree from the Department of International and European Studies at the University of Piraeus, focusing on “The Securitization of Digital Electoral Processes: The Case of the European Union” in 2025. In 2022, she completed her PhD on Islamic cyberterrorism at the same department. She holds a bachelor’s in Political Science and Public Administration from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a master’s in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences.
Her primary research interests encompass international relations, international security, European security and defense, strategy, terrorism, cyberterrorism, hybrid threats, cybersecurity, disinformation, strategic communication, digital authoritarianism, artificial intelligence and digital democracy. She has published extensively and participated in numerous conferences and research projects related to these research fields.
Kapsokoli is also a PhD alumna of the European Doctoral School on Common Security and Defence Policy. She actively participates in research initiatives at the Laboratory of Intelligence and Cyber-security at the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus, the Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS),the Council for International Relations – Greece (CfIR–GR), the Foreign Affairs Institute (FAINST), the Institute for National and International Security of Serbia (INIS) and the Institute of Studies for Politics and Democracy (ISPD) of Cyprus.

Ino Korbaki is a qualified educator and administrator with advanced degrees in Clinical Psychology, Human Resource Management and TESOL. She serves as Assistant Professor of Psychology at Webster University Athens, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses ranging from Social Psychology and Personality Theory to Counseling and Developmental Psychology.
With extensive leadership experience in human resources, counseling and academic coordination, Korbaki has directed programs at Webster University, the American Community Schools of Athens and the University of Indianapolis. Alexandros Lavdas
Head of Psychology Department, Assistant Professor
Alexandros A. Lavdas, MSc, PhD, is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology at Webster University, Athens Campus. He is also a tenured Senior Researcher at Eurac Research, Bolzano, Italy, and member of the Board of Directors at the Human Architecture and Planning Institute, Concord, MA. He holds a PhD from University College London (UCL) and has worked at UCL and the Hellenic Pasteur Institute in Athens, and taught at the University of Indianapolis (Athens branch).
Lavdas has worked extensively on nervous system development and regeneration. In recent years, he is especially interested in neuroaesthetics applied to the built environment, examining elements of visual organized complexity, such as those found in nature and pre-modern architecture, and exploring their physiological and neural correlates.

Dimitris Levedakis
Associate Vice Rector for Business and Finance
Dimitris Leventakis is the founding Partner and Managing Director of ECOVIS Hellas Ltd. and the principal contact for Ecovis in Greece. Leventakis is a graduate of the Athens University of Economics and Business with a BA in Economics and holds a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. He has also been certified as a tax advisor by the Economic Chamber of Greece and the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD), an international foundation generally regarded as the foremost authority on cross-border taxation.
Leventakis deals with a wide range of accounting and tax compliance issues, involving a diverse portfolio of clients. Having previously held the position of Senior Manager at EY Greece, he brings with him invaluable experience and expertise through his participation in several major tax services and tax controversy projects. He is actively involved in supervising several multinational organizations’ compliance with Greek and International Accounting Standards (IAS). He has also participated in numerous, complex accounting consultancy and cross-border tax transactions, involving mergers and acquisitions, implementation of ERP systems and customized applications in accordance with the Greek Chart of Accounts and Greek Accounting Standards.
Leventakis has served clients coming from various key business sectors, including the real estate, automotive, oil, gas, mining and exploration and the shipping industry. He also offers expert advice on distance sales and digital services, with an interest in startups.

Susie Michailidis
Vice Rector, Academic Affairs; Head of English Department, Professor
Susie Michailidis, PhD, is a Professor at Webster University Athens with more than 30 years of experience in research, teaching and administration. As a researcher and member of several academies of sciences, she has published work in the fields of literature, literary criticism, philosophy, history, political and social sciences. She holds scientific honors and was included in “2000 Outstanding Scholars of the 20th Century for the contribution in the field of Comparative Literature and Literary Criticism.”
In her current position as Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Michailidis oversees the delivery of academic programs. She serves as an international accreditation expert for IAAR, the Independent Agency for Accreditation. Michailidis also performs duties of Vice President of the Euro-Mediterranean Academy of Arts and Sciences, which consists of a transnational and interdisciplinary network of academic experts in sciences and arts.

Basilio Petkidis
Senior Lecturer, Business & Technology Department
Basilio Petkidis is a distinguished executive with dual Greek and Panamanian nationality, renowned for leading and transforming organizations across multiple industries. Currently serving as President and CEO of Mediterranean Gas S.A. since February 2022, Petkidis structured and established the company’s operations, driving strategic market penetration and overseeing acquisition and growth activities. Previously, as General Director and CEO of CETRACORE-JETOIL S.A. (2018-2021), Petkidis led a major restructuring, achieving over 200% growth in sales volumes and actively participating in capital market development.
Petkidis’ extensive career includes pivotal roles at Mamidakis Group, where responsibilities ranged from Acting COO/CFO of Mamidoil-Jetoil to Chief Financial Officer of the International Trading Division. Petkidis played a key role in asset valuation, financial restructuring, investor relations and strategic consulting, contributing to successful rehabilitation transactions under the Greek Bankruptcy Code. Earlier, Petkidis served as General Manager at Hermes S.A. (Hotels) in Crete and Services Manager at Sea-Land Service, Inc. in Panama, representing the company in major maritime and commerce chambers.
Beyond executive roles, Petkidis is a lecturer at Webster University Athens and an active member of professional organizations, including the Economic Chamber of Greece and AHEPA, where Petkidis has held leadership positions and coordinated philanthropic and educational initiatives. Petkidis has also represented the Greek National Baseball Team and led delegations at international events.
Petkidis is fluent in Greek, English and Spanish, holding an MSc in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Lancaster/University of Macedonia and two BS degrees from Florida State University. Petkidis has contributed to the field through numerous articles, interviews and conference presentations on energy, economics and sustainability, making him a respected figure in both business and community spheres.

Adel Sakr

Adel Sakr, PhD, was born in Cairo, Egypt to a Greek mother and an Egyptian father who both worked in the field of higher education. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1996 from the English Section of the Faculty of Commerce at Cairo University. In 1998 he attended Aston Business School in Birmingham, UK from which he graduated with a Master of Science in Marketing Management in 2000.
He built international experience across industry and academia in marketing, advertising, events, services, consumer behavior and marketing research. He worked with organizations such as Mercedes-Benz in Cairo, Egypt; Research International in Athens, Greece; and Auburn University in Alabama, USA. In 2012 he returned to Aston University, UK, to pursue a PhD in marketing, which he earned in 2017.
From 2017 to 2019, Sakr was a lecturer in marketing at Coventry University in Coventry, UK. When Sakr returned to Greece in 2019, he joined Webster University Athens Campus, initially as a faculty member at the Business & Technology Department. In 2023 he was appointed as an Admissions Counselor at Webster Athens.
Sakr is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in Marketing and the Director of Enrollment Management at Webster Athens. His teaching and research interests are in the areas of marketing, consumer behavior, visual communication, organizational behavior and leadership. He takes a multidisciplinary approach to his teaching in these different subject areas.
Sakr presented his research internationally in Greece, USA and Europe at important academic conferences including the EMAC 2016 in Oslo, Norway.
Alongside his professional responsibilities at Webster Athens, Sakr is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English at Webster Athens, a lifelong dream inspired by the classical studies that remain his parents' main area of academic interest and contribution.

Athanasios Sarantopoulos
Assistant Professor, Business & Technology Department
Athanasios Sarantopoulos, PhD, is an experienced Greek electrical engineer and academic professional with a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Akron and an Executive MBA from the University of Indianapolis.
Since 2002, he has been a key contributor to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), significantly advancing meteorological observation quality, climate data research and international collaborations. His work includes establishing Greece’s Lightning Detection Network and developing quality control protocols for meteorological data. He has also contributed to major projects like the Mediterranean Climate Data Rescue (MEDARE) and METEOALARM, which support managing extreme weather events across Europe.
Academically, Sarantopoulos is an Assistant Professor at Webster University in Athens, teaching computer science and mathematics, with courses focusing on information security, programming, algorithms and databases. His expertise includes control systems, data science, machine learning, software development, GIS, cybersecurity and systems simulation, complemented by domain knowledge in meteorology and climatology.
He actively supervises diploma theses and leads regional climate change research efforts, particularly on meteorological data quality and the impacts of climate on Greek agriculture. He is engaged in initiatives such as the Smart Islands Initiative for sustainable development in island communities, including water scarcity and energy efficiency solutions, and he played a key role in reopening the Pserimos school, emphasizing his commitment to education and community development.
Sarantopoulos provides expert media commentary, supports community programs and holds memberships in professional societies including IEEE, ACM, BCS, AFCEA, AGU and AAAI.
He is a licensed professional engineer in Greece and is fluent in Greek and English, recognized for his academic excellence, leadership and contributions to research and society. Sarantopoulos, distinguished as an academician, holds the position of Secretary of the Presidium at the Euro-Mediterranean Academy of Arts and Sciences (EMAAS). In this capacity, he undertakes administrative and organizational duties, playing a key role in guiding the Academy's leadership.

Dina Skias
Director of Student Affairs and Study Abroad/Community Service Coordinator; Assistant Professor, Psychology Department
Dina Skias is the Director of Student Affairs and the Odyssey in Athens Study Abroad Program at Webster Athens. She also coordinates the Community Service-Learning program and is passionate about providing students a comprehensive social and cultural experience.
Skias has been working in international education for more than 20 years and relocated from the United States (near Pittsburgh, PA) to Athens, Greece when the Odyssey in Athens program began and has been directing it ever since. She began her work at Webster Athens in October 2014.
She loves to show students the beauty of Greece, its culture, history and the spirit of ‘filoxenia’ (hospitality) of the Greek people. She holds a bachelor’s in Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master’s in clinical psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Dimitris Stamoulis
Head of Business & Technology Department, Assistant Professor
Dimitris Stamoulis, PhD, holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Athens, postgraduate degrees in Computer Science from the University of London and a degree in Business Administration from the University of Leicester, UK. He holds a PhD in Information Systems Management from the University of Athens and professional certifications in ISO standards as well as in project management.
From 1998 to 2021, Stamoulis held a range of roles in the banking sector. His work included business development for e-banking and e-commerce; internal executive training; oversight of large IT projects (mergers and acquisitions, capital controls, ISO certifications); evaluating innovation competitions; and mentoring teams competing for innovation awards.
As of 2022, Stamoulis works as a business consultant, as well as an Assistant Professor and the Head of Business & Technology Department at Webster Athens. His substantial teaching experience encompasses various management and technology courses taught at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Prior to joining Webster Athens, he taught project management, e-commerce, management of information systems, quality management, e-marketing, general management and ERP systems.
He has published 22 articles in international scientific journals, four chapters of scientific books and more than 20 papers in international scientific conferences with review, in the areas of business administration, technological resource management, quality management and information technologies, with a constantly increasing number of citations to his academic work. Stamoulis synthesizes theoretical knowledge and practical application, drawing on academic reasoning, experiential learning and guided instruction to tackle real-world professional challenges. He is a member of the Euro Mediterranean Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Giannoula Vasiliou
Writing Center Coordinator, Assistant Professor, English Department
Giannoula Vasiliou has been a faculty member at Webster since 2015. She is an Assistant Professor in the English and Communications Departments, and her areas of expertise include teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as academic and professional writing, English and American literature, public speaking and courses concerning Greek history, culture and language.
She is the Writing Lab Coordinator and Advisor, primarily guiding students face-to-face on issues related to structure, organization, mechanics and documentation styles.
Over the years, Vasiliou has closely collaborated with the Vice-Rector and Head of the English Department, Susie Michailidis, PhD, and colleagues on researching, composing and presenting several articles at educational conferences and forums pertaining to social and cognitive linguistics and English language teaching.
Since 2022, she has been serving as Editor for Webster News, as well as scientific and academic articles written by Webster Athens faculty for publication in professional journals, proofreading work for both students and faculty.
