In an insightful new article titled “The Power of Women: Greece Can Change the Game,” Anthi Kalomiri, head of Communications at Webster Athens, offers a critical and personal exploration of how gender equity intersects with Greece’s national development.

Written in the aftermath of the recent Compete Greece event “Women’s Power: How Women Are Changing the Game,” the article blends first-hand observations, policy insight and social reflection. Kalomiri examines how women’s leadership and workforce participation are central — not secondary — to Greece’s future economic resilience, innovation and global competitiveness.

The article emphasizes that despite equal representation In higher education, Greek women remain significantly underrepresented in full-time employment and leadership roles. It also highlights the undervaluing of caregiving, persistent gender biases in the workplace and the urgent need to connect education with the local labor market, while underscoring the importance of media literacy and civic engagement among women.

“The question is not just how informed women are, but how empowered they feel to engage, critique and reshape narratives," wrote Kalomiri, Assistant Professor of Media Studies at Webster Athens. “If education is the engine, media literacy is the steering wheel of modern female agency.

“Inclusion doesn’t begin in policy rooms. It begins in everyday moments — in the silences we choose not to break, in the actions we omit to take. Women — whether native-born or migrants, professionals, caregivers or both — must be full stakeholders in national progress,” Kalomiri said.

With a call to move from individual success to collective impact, the article frames women’s empowerment as both a social responsibility and a strategic opportunity for Greece. It concludes with a challenge: to reimagine national progress not from Generation Z, but from a new starting point — Generation A.
