Webster Athens celebrated its 2026 Graduation Ceremony on May 27 at the Webster Athens Cultural Center, honoring the achievements, dedication and global experiences of this year’s graduates.

The commencement address was delivered by Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Konstantinos Vlasis, who congratulated graduates as they prepare to enter a rapidly evolving global and professional environment.

The Role of Higher Education in a Changing World

In his address, Vlasis described Webster University as a distinguished academic institution whose emphasis on international perspectives, interdisciplinary learning and academic rigor has positioned it as a respected institution in the global educational landscape. He said that institutions such as Webster “do not merely transmit knowledge; they shape minds, foster innovation and cultivate responsible global citizens,” adding that they prepare graduates "not only to succeed in their chosen fields, but also to lead with vision, integrity and a strong sense of social responsibility in an ever-changing world."

Speaking to the graduates, Vlasis called on them to carry forward the values that have defined their education: integrity, curiosity and a sense of purpose. "Success is reflected not only in professional achievements, but also in the ability to act with empathy, collaborate across cultures and contribute positively to your communities," Vlasis said.

"The future is not something that simply happens. It is something you shape through your choices and your efforts," he said.

Graduation Marks Both an Achievement and a New Beginning

Webster Athens Rector Vasilis J. Botopoulos said graduation represents both an achievement and a beginning.

“Throughout their time at Webster Athens, our graduates have embraced academic excellence, intercultural understanding and the values of global citizenship,” Botopoulos said. “As they begin the next chapter of their lives, we congratulate the Class of 2026 and look forward to the contributions they will make as professionals, leaders and changemakers around the world.”

Valedictorian Reflects on Resilience, Courage and Opportunity

Valedictorian Mohhamad Osman Tahsilzoy, who graduated with highest honors (BS, summa cum laude), reflected on the resilience and determination that shaped the Class of 2026. He encouraged graduates to carry forward not only the knowledge they gained, but also the courage, kindness and sense of responsibility needed to make a positive impact in the world.

“Today is not the end of the journey. It is the celebration of courage, perseverance and dreams that once felt impossible,” Tahsilzoy said.

Speaking to his fellow graduates, he said, “The future is now in our hands. Wherever life takes us, let’s move forward as resilient dreamers, builders of the future and global citizens who never forget the lessons of this journey. May your paths be bold, your dreams be limitless and your impact on the world be meaningful and truly positive.”

Vice Rector Highlights Learning, Growth and New Perspectives

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Susie Michailidis, PhD, said graduation marks the culmination of years of learning, personal growth and perseverance.

“Throughout their time at Webster Athens, our graduates have engaged with new ideas, different cultures and diverse perspectives that have helped shape their educational journey,” Michailidis said. “We congratulate the Class of 2026 and wish them success as they pursue their goals and embrace the opportunities and responsibilities that lie ahead.”

Among the distinguished guests were Ambassador of Mexico to Greece Alejandro Garcia Moreno Elizondo and Ambassador of Georgia to Greece Levan Beridze, who received the Embassy Educational Partnership and Collaboration Award from Rector Botopoulos.
